IPM (Integrated Pest Mgmt.) Seed Technician

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Seed Technician, are to:

  • Manage nurseries in the open field and protect environment conditions to meet production parameters. Specifically, will concentrate on integrated pest management trapping, scouting, and data collection;
  • Open field and protected environment pest application coordination and planning;
  • Will have a planned schedule to achieve business goals;
  • Responsibilities include but may not be limited to training, retraining, and coordination;
  • Work with internal and external partners to improve IPM program;
  • Integrate continuous process improvement and quality control programs to improve efficiency, reduce costs and maintain superior conversion quality;
  • Make sure that purchases are made in a timely manner with accurate delivery dates following company procedures;
  • Follow up with vendors if necessary to assure delivery schedule;
  • Position entails driving a company vehicle (pooled or assigned to the individual). This may include being required to drive greater than 5,000 business miles annually in a personal, pooled, or rented vehicle OR being expected to frequently drive a pooled car as part of your job duties - regardless of mileage;
  • Provide timely corrective action for discovered safety and compliance issues.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, or related fields;
  • Experience and demonstrated skills with IPM techniques and processes;
  • Strong verbal, written, and reading communication skills in Spanish and English;
  • Ability to provide data to write reports and present data to business partners;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with peers and managers in a professional, confidential and respectful manner;
  • Work independently and as part of a team as well as can build and maintain strong relationships and networks to optimize process workflows and assist in achieving team's business goals;
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists;
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form;
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs;
  • Valid Driver's License; (to be eligible to drive a company car, your driving record must meet guidelines based on the company's risk screening for hiring drivers - Motor Vehicle Record will be reviewed as part of pre-employment screening);
  • Hold, maintain and actively use valid Puerto Rico Restricted Use Pesticide Applicator License OR ability to obtain such license within 90 days from hire;
  • Must have availability to meet overtime demands, including occasional work on weekends and holidays;
  • Willing to wear Personal Protective Equipment, a backpack sprayer and use of other manual spraying equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of IPM experience;
  • EPA Worker Protection Standard License or Restricted Use Pesticide Applicator License;
  • Experience in Integrated Pest Management Trapping, Scouting and Pest Control;
  • Strong interest and aptitude of IT tools, Excel macros, Databases, statistical analysis and report.
