Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to manage care of the critically ill adult patient. Works in collaboration with a physician and other members of the interdisciplinary team to evaluate and treat acute illnesses and injuries, ordering, conducting and interpreting appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests, prescribing of pharmacologic agents and treatments, and performing necessary invasive procedures in accordance with established protocols, policies and evidenced based practice. Provides expert education, consultation, and patient advocacy.

Job Specifics

  • OSF Saint Francis Medical Center is seeking an advanced practice nurse or physician assistant to join our critical care team in a busy intensive care unit.
  • The advanced practice provider is in charge of several units and a member of the critical care team and vent management team. Teaching patients on units is expected.
  • The critical care team covers our our neurological ICU, cardiac ICU, and med/surg ICU.
  • Responsible for placing CVC lines, Arterial lines, hypothermic treatments and chest tubes among other procedures.
  • APP lead service working with in collaboration with the Illinois Lung Institute physician group, which employs 11 practitioners.
  • Makes care decisions independently.
  • Schedule is nights with rotating weekends. No call.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Current Certification as APRN or Physician's Assistant * Current Licensure in the state of Illinois as an APRN or Physician's Assistant * Current Basic Life Support certification and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Certification as an acute care nurse practitioner * Two years of critical care patient management experience Other skills/knowledge Work requires the interpersonal skills necessary to educate family and significant others on care as well as provide emotional support during crisis, deal effectively with physicians and residents, provide training and education to residents, medical students, and nurses.
